Symptoms of Dry Eye

How do you know you have dry eye? Symptoms include:

  • Stinging
  • Burning
  • Eye fatigue
  • Light sensitivity
  • Gritty feeling
  • Foreign body sensation
  • Stringy mucus

Any time you experience discomfort, it is important to get an eye exam. Dry eye isn’t dangerous on its own, but if left untreated, it can cause long-term damage.

What Causes Dry Eye?

Dry eye occurs when your eyes either do not make enough tears or the tears they produce don’t have the correct chemical composition.

The normal aging process, certain medications or surgeries, and prolonged contact lens wear are a few of the reasons why your eyes may not be producing enough moisture.

When it comes to the chemical composition of your tears, it gets a little more complicated. Your tears are made up of 3 layers—a water layer to keep the eyes moist, a mucus layer to spread the water over the eye’s surface, and an oil layer to keep the water from evaporating before it has had a chance to moisten the eye.

If any of these layers are out of balance, the tears may not do their job of keeping your eyes moist and comfortable.

Our Dry Eye Treatments

At Celebration Eye Care, our dry eye treatment starts with a comprehensive eye exam to determine which dry eye treatment is best for your visual needs. We offer a variety of treatment options to help you find relief.

OptiLight by Lumenis

OptiLight by Lumenis is a noninvasive, FDA-approved intense pulsed light therapy applied to the area below the eyes. OptiLight is the first and only IPL FDA-approved for dry eye management.

This treatment has been backed by over 20 clinical studies to help patients find relief from dry eye.

BlephEx is an in-office procedure that treats inflammation of the eyelids. This inflammation can cause dry eyes by preventing oil production. BlephEx works by cleaning the accumulated bacterial biofilm and plaque along the edge of your eyelids and eyelashes to help you find relief.

The iLux Thermal Pulsation treatment addresses dry eyes caused by meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). MGD occurs when glands within your eyelids get blocked or are not operating to their fullest, impacting the tear-production process.

iLux gently unblocks your glands to help provide relief from dry eye symptoms caused by MGD.

MiBo thermoflo is a therapeutic approach to treating dry eye caused by MGD. The MiBo gently massages the outer layer of your eyelids with continuous, controlled heat. This process can help produce thinner, clearer oils and reduced tear film evaporation.
